Trip Overview

Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb lead you on top above 5,663 m / 18,575 ft high, one of the lesser trekking peaks below 6,000 meters, but quite challenging to reach its summit where one needs enough fitness and determination to tackled this fine peak called Tent or Tharpu Chuli.

One of the toughest trekking peaks of Nepal located within scenic Annapurna Sanctuary and beyond, where walk takes you from beautiful Pokhara city and its green valley surrounded by hills and mountains with serene lakes.

Beginning with driving journey to start our adventurous walks towards mid hills of Annapurna heading towards lovely villages of Jhinu and Chomrong populated by Gurung ethnic tribes of hill people with impressive culture and traditional life.

As walk progress entering into a gorge of Modi River following the river upstream to reach into a wide valley and a plateau at Annapurna Sanctuary, after leaving the tree lines and lush vegetation behind.

From Annapurna base camp our real adventure starts walking past glacier to reach our major destination at Tent Peak base camp, with time for preparation and acclimatization following our expert guides to reach its summit top.

On top facing mind-blowing views of mountains that encircles you feeling in high spirit descend back to the sanctuary for onwards journey to Pokhara and towards Kathmandu after an adventure of a lifetime experience on Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli Climb.

Note

Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli grade as TD means ‘Technical Difficule’ as per French / Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification, a straightforward climb and requires technical skill in most sections to tackle towards its rocky summit.

The name with tent shaped when looked from the sanctuary and base camp, the local and NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) name is Tharpu Chuli.

ITINERARY

Detailed Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu Tribhuwan International Airport received by our staff and guide with warm welcome and greetings and then transfer to your hotels in the heart of Kathmandu city. After checking into your rooms getting refreshed from Jet-Lag, a quiet environment after getting refreshed join at main hall or in lobby where our guide will provide briefing on treks-hotels with necessary information. Evening includes group dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant with folk culture program with various dances of Nepal while having your authentic Nepalese dinner with local entertainment.

Morning after hearty breakfast depart from the hotel where our city and tour guide leads you for exciting guided sightseeing around Kathmandu. Although Kathmandu a metropolitan city still retains its ancient culture and traditional way of life with many world heritage sites to visit of great interest, tour of Kathmandu Durbar Square (old palace courtyard) old Syambhunath Stupa (famous land mark of Nepal and Kathmandu), Bouddhanath Stupa (Little Tibet) with holy Pashupatinath Temple of Hindu religion and then back to hotel with time for trek and climb preparations next early morning.

Morning after breakfast transfer for the drive to scenic Pokhara, leading you on Nepal’s main busy Highway with exciting views of distant peaks and green landscapes, as drive leads past many farms village and towns to reach at Pokhara after 5-6 hrs of interesting overland journey. Pokhara, blessed with natural beauty located on the laps of massive Annapurna Himalaya includes majestic Machhapuchare Himal ‘Fish Tail’, due to its twin summits, a virgin unclimbed peaks of Himalaya. Besides mountains and rolling green hills treasures calm lakes of Phewa and Begnas where most of the good hotels and international standard restaurants located by the Phewa Lake. (For flying options to Pokhara 30 minutes of short scenic flights from Kathmandu)

After a pleasant overnight stop at Pokhara with marvelous views of Annapurna Himalaya with magnificent Machhapuchare Himal, completing breakfast an exciting drive of few hours beyond Pokhara valley to reach our starting point to Annapurna Sanctuary and towards Tent Peak climb. Drive leads past Pokhara valley outskirt with marvelous scenery of Annapurna peaks and farm lands and then reaching much warmer areas of Nayapul town by the road side of Pokhara and Beni highway. From here follow Modi River to a nice and lovely village Bhirethati and further to Sibai and then begin our first day walk through farm villages with uphill on stone paved steps to reach at Jhinu Danda for overnight stop. Jhinu a small farm village with many good lodges includes fresh natural hot spring just 30 minutes downhill by the Modi River for interested people or with time to visit the hot spring.

Morning walk leads to a river, after crossing a bridge then climb up to Sinuwa danda (ridge) at 2,360 m high, an isolated spot with small shops and few lodges. From here walk into deep forested areas of oaks-rhododendron and pines trees with short steep descend to Bamboo, a small settlement with some lodges within forest of bamboo groves by the raging Modi River. After Bamboo an hour or more climb leads to Dovan for overnight stop situated high above Modi River Gorge houses 2-3 nice lodges for overnight stay.

After a sound and peaceful overnight stop at Dovan with the rhythm flow of Modi River, morning walk enters higher areas within deep forest to reach Himalaya Hotel, located on the bottom of Huichuli peak and near overhanging Cave called Hinko. From here downhill to cross an ablation of old avalanche filled with rocks and moraine, then climb to Deurali. After Deurali with possible lunch stop as walk leads higher on leaving tree lines behind following Modi River upstream all the way to overnight stop at Machhapuchare base camp above 3,700 m high, located beneath high peaks of Machhapuchare Himal North Face.

Our walk finally leads to our main destination at Annapurna base camp within picturesque Annapurna Sanctuary, where morning trek starts into sanctuary from MBC heading higher areas with short climb of few hours to enter into scenic spot at sanctuary enclosed by amphitheatre of peaks. After few hours of nice and scenic walk reaching our highest point of the adventure at Annapurna base camp with 4,130 m high, the only place in Himalaya with comfort of nice and cozy lodge to stay, with free afternoon to relax and enjoy views of Annapurna I (8,091m / 26,545ft) Annapurna South (7,219m-23,693ft), Gangapurna (7,455m-24,457ft) and Annapurna III (7,555m-24,787ft), including to Mt. Machhapuchare (Fish-tail) at 6,790 m stretches up towards Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli and Fluted Peaks or Singu Chuli

With pleasant rest at Annapurna Base Camp, morning our walks leads across snow-covered moraine rocky path and towards icy trail for an hour to reach at Annapurna south glacier. From here a short climb along with superb close views of Tent peak with other high mountains, after few hours of good trek reaching a flat ground to set our base camp with first night camping, afternoon free for climbing preparation

We have prepared an extra camp to make the climb more accessible to reach the summit top, from the base camp climb to a steep moraine and glacier with lot of boulders, as walk continues to reach our high camp at above 5,200 meters high, afternoon free for acclimatization as well preparation for next earlu morning climb to the summit of Tent Peak or Tharpu Chuli.

Starting early morning following our leads guide over steep snow slopes encountering some technical areas to tackle just before the summit; here our expert guide will fix ropes on required section of the climb for safe summit bid. After a strenuous and vigorous climb reaching the top of Tent Peak, where you will be relieved with high spirit facing awesome scenery of array of peaks from the summit, with an exciting and splendid time atop descend back to base camp safely.

From the base camp of Tent Peak after cleaning and clearing the base camp walk back to Annapurna Base Camp within ice and glaciers, a moderate good walk of five hours reaches you at Annapurna base camp in the comfort of nice and cozy lodge.

After a fabulous moment and adventure on top Tent Peak, with super views our journey leads downhill heading back into tree lines with short ups and down to Bamboo for overnight stop in a nice lodge, located within green forest surrounding above Modi River.

From Bamboo walk leads on leaving the gorge and Modi River behind with a climb to Khuldi-Ghar and into forested areas, a short gradual walk leads to Sinuwa danda, from here downhill to Chomrong River, with an hour climb on stone steps to Chomrong for possible lunch break. After Chomrong a short climb to reach a top ridge and then our route change taking an alternative trail to reach Pokhara, where a short downhill brings you Jhinu village for overnight stop, located on a ridge top, a short walk downhill reaches you at hot-spring by the Modi River for refreshing dip in warm natural spring pools

After an enjoyable and pleasant stop at Jhinu our walks comes to an end of this superb adventure as morning leads to long descend to reach by the Modi River in a small farm village of Sibai, where few hours of interesting drive brings you back at beautiful Pokhara by the Phewa Lake for last overnight around Annapurna region.
